New Housing Bill Raises Bar for Abutter Appeals!

ATTENTION DEVELOPERS!

On August 5, 2024, a new Housing Bill was signed into law by Governor, Maura Healy to address some of the housing crisis we are seeing in the market today. As developers, you understand the process of getting your project approved, which can cause many developers to spend large amounts of money for abutter’s appeals, that takes months to years to resolve.

This most recent legislation makes amendments to the Zoning Act to hopefully curtail vexatious abutter appeals.

We have attached an article written by Attorney Chris Agostino, a shareholder with the firm Ruberto, Israel & Weiner to explain the new law and how it works for the developers and abutters. Mr. Agostino is a well-known attorney, who has led several cases before the Housing Appeals Committee, and understands the repercussions of this process.
